Use with iPad Pro and Apple Pencil
Use with iPad Pro and Apple Pencil
For an app that is built with its own stylus I am very disappointed in how it runs with the 53 pencil. Handwriting is messy, canvas size small, and adding page to a project is really confusing. Also the responsiveness of the 53 pencil with 53 paper is not great whether connected or used as a passive stylus. Would rather use Sketchbook instead. Clean look though and nice organization idea but could be improved.
I agree with others who are disappointed with all the new "features". I would like to see this app split apart into two or three separate apps. New ideas like spaces and templates only distract from the simplicity of the original.
I am very disappointed in 53. What happened to it? I cant even get my pencil 53 (which I paid a lot for, by the way) to even connect to the app. Recharged it, took it apart and changed the head. No luck. It does work fine with Procreate, though, and I am finding a lot more advantages to Procreate. I originally liked paper 53 because I could create books and organize, but the last couple of updates have made it useless to me. Too bad!
Was just starting to like it and trying out the app both on my iPad and iPhone. However when I tried to log into a new account I made to organize my class notes it would crash whenever I try to open the app. Unusable and unreliable.
This used to be one of my favourite apps. For a while, the updates made it better....tools, the magnifying glass, 53s addition of Pencil, but with the more recent updates it now feels cluttered & clunky, I loved the magnifying glass zoom & found it more precise (zoom was larger) than the standard pinch to zoom which is now in place. The developers have added on far too much to this once elegant & simple app.
Update: Completely ruined an amazing app. I miss being able to tap a sketchbook and flip theough the pages. Its clumsy and just a big mess now. Dont change what isnt broken. Stop pushing additional products on paying customers every time they open the app. Really disappointed to have paid for all the features previously only to have the app fundamentally change and no longer be of any use. This isnt what I paid for. Original review: This is one of my favourite apps. Ive had it since it was first released and it is one of the few apps that have stuck with my since. I use it for everything. Story-boarding for a graphic novel. Character planning. Sketching and prelims. Renovating and taking measurements and planning colours and layouts. Even just replacing a napkin for quick notes. Only thing Im still waiting for is the ability to moderately change the size of brushes. Mostly, the highlighting and paint brush tools. Generally, although I love the brush tool, it is way too big. The brushes themselves are amazing. The best and most natural Ive used on the ipad. The entire app is intuitive and allows you to do what you need to do without stalling to find the undo button, or worrying about absolute perfection.
For context, I adore this app. I use it for all my university notes that dont provide slideshow slides and it is very user friendly. Features I would suggest to improve this app: 1. Cut tool: be able to cut something from one page and paste it onto another 2. Image: allow multiple images on one page 3. Export: it would be really neat if you could export a notebook as a pdf email attachment 4. Import: would be neat if the app could import slides (and make a slide per page in a notebook idea/project) like OneNote can, for example 5. Background running: on my iPad, I can open background apps while I use another app (eg. Read something in iBooks while messaging someone on Facebook which runs in the background) but I cant use Paper in that way because it apparently doesnt run in the background. This would just be a nicety, not a necessity of course. Overall, this is one app I would recommend to other people!
This app its really awesome. But it would be much better if u guys add animating to this app!
Unfortunately this an app that was once a favourite but through development has become a much poorer experience for me.
good work! Perfect for me..Im not a great artist and not particularly organized. So now with paper, I can do some good art in a fairly organized way complete with notes.
I love paper, I have been using it a long time. It is particularly fantastic with pencil. The developers have mastered keeping things simple while being rich in features. You used to be able to get books printed directly from paper. This feature hasnt worked for some time, and for a few versions. I was hoping this latest update would fix it, but it hasnt. 53 support acknowledges the problem, but no date when it will be resolved. Its been long enough now that the feature should be removed entirely. Bring it back later if it works. It has been so long it is well beyond bug status.
It brings me more joy then any other app I own. Its especially magical when paired with Apple Pencil.
The Public Stream adds personality and community to this great art app. Great colour mixing. Pencil makes the app even better. Three developments wed like to see: 1 - more brushes added - oil painting technique, charcoal effect, stamp brush 2 - improved cut and paste - resize paste, copy between canvases, flip and rotate paste 3 - improved text editing - change typeface size, font, bold and italic, colour, etc. Oh, and how about a wet-paper setting when using watercolour brush - ability to define and turn on an area to stay wet so colours run into each other...
Why accounts, indeed. Regretting my in-app purchases now.
I appreciate the new stack view, it is easier to reorganize. But Id like to be able to toggle between book view and stack view. So far, Im not that impressed with Pencil. Well see.
Just keep finding more and more uses for this and now it just seems to be getting better and better!
Loved the early versions of this app, then left it for a while, and have come back to a childish my ideas labelling interface that lacks the sophistication of the earlier customizable folders/sketchbooks. Really DISLIKE the options and presentation of page types inside a new folder. Should have left the interface alone in my opinion.
I am a super scattered person, and this app is perfect for writing down my thoughts and doodling when the need arises. I do find it a little difficult to use the pencil stylus on my iPhone 5 but other than that it is perfect
I accidentally downloaded the downgrade from the App Store... It feels a little like upgrading from OS X to Windows 95.
