Downgraded to one star

This app used to be enjoyable, useful, and the social Mix part was fun and interactive. Just recently the developers completely changed it, literally overnight - disapointing and frustrating a lot of members. Almost two weeks now and all activity has noticeably declined. // Update: Ive checked back several times and though there are a lot of great artists and drawings, there is no interaction or enjoyable flow to the program. Disappointing because it used to be good.//Another update: Its been a year and no new tools? Still disappointing.

They have ruined this app

I hate the forced use of accounts. I purchased this app prior to that addition and bought up grades that are now useless unless I agree to have my stuff backed up in a way I did not freely choose. What an invasive choice on the part of this developer.

DO NOT GET THIS APP.

I cant update this app. Do not get this app.

I want my old ink back!

I agree with the other reviewers that the update to the pens ink character has rendered it lifeless, flat and thin. My favorite drawing pen is a Pilot Fineliner and the old ink pen was almost identical in line quality and ink bleed character. Id love to get this line quality back. Additionally it would be great if there was a way of specifying the pressure sensitivity of the Apple Pencil in the Paper settings. I also wish there was a better place to leave this comment so as not to play the App Store rating game as Ive always loved the app.

No Portrait

Lack of portrait support in a drawing app is a show-stopper for me.

Love it!!!

Making art on here is so fun. One suggestion (that would get it 5 stars)- an easy way to unshare things from your followers. Ive accidentally double shared pictures twice now and I cant figure out how to unshare. :(

Use it for drawing

Absolutely amazing app for drawing, especially with the Apple Pencil!

awesome app.

had to have it, easy to use.

Good-look forward to more

Get up for drawling-intuitive. What would make this five stars, is more selectable line weight control, And less ability to smudge

A Once Great App...

...totally wrecked by mission creep and abandonment of early, unique features that worked PERFECTLY. I used to feel comfortable entering the app and just sketching, painting and doodling. I paid $7 or $8 for the all of the tools while they were still charging for them. I didnt mind it when they went free a couple of months later. Now? Public Stream? Ideas? Lists? Being forced to credit "Made With Paper by 53" with items I share with MYSELF? Its ridiculous. The only way I would ever use this app again is if they created something like "Paper Classic" and revived the old notebooks and all of the other original caffeinated features. How hard could that be? For now, blecch.

Enjoying it on my iPhone. :)

Thank you for making this app compatible for iPhones because I have my iPhone most of the time when my iPad is at home and also if I am waiting for something and do art in the mean time, this is nice.

Needs better journaling to use as a real pencil-like stylus

The Paper app is wonderful! I love that its free and its even better with the Pencil stylus. However, my sincerest wish is that the journal part of the app allowed to write in a journal mode similar to how the Moleskine journal app is setup. In fact, I requested that the Moleskine app team incorporate the Pencil stylus SDK/platform and they hope to incorporate it (based on their response). Initially I was shocked that 53 wasnt offered in offering a feature-rich experience where one could journal and/or be as productive with note-taking with iPad and the Pencil stylus by 53. Moleskine has since offered Pencil 53s styles support and it just not magical. Its terrible. I purchased the stylus to help support 53s efforts...Im a bit disappointed in their response to suggestions. I understand they may not have the funding to offer such enhancements. But the feedback from people that are new to iPad or to using my iPad in an education or business settings is the wish to take better notes. ("Better notes" has meant: able to record in an easy fashion - like a journal or notebook - and also apply technology to further the input methods. i.e. - allow for handwriting recognition (or OCR) so that users can search through their own notes.) Personally, I love the form-factor/design of the stylus Pencil...I know that many prefer the slimmer design of a pencil-like design of Apple Pencil. Now, I have arthritis and I believe that the bigger Pencil stylus is great for people with arthritis. Not everyone has arthritis. The Paper app by Pencil seems only for "journaling" by taking a list of notes and not serious journaling. Treat this beautiful stylus with complimentary features that make people want to use it (other than the drawing bit - which is quite phenomenal). So in short, the app is great for drawing and design options. But to do some note-taking or journaling, just go for another app (and I dont recommend the Moleskine app either, at this point). I hope this review is helpful. And I look forward to enhancements in the app. I am impressed that they offer journals to be backed up. I wished that they offered an iPhone companion app to do quick sketches or notes that could integrate into the Paper app. (Again, I use the Moleskine apps as a reference. OR you can refer to the GoodNotes 4 app.)

Five stars for regular iPad, zero for mini

And zero for support. It works great on my iPhone and iPad retina. When I try to open it on my Mini it crashes and never opens. The support pages and community answers dont apply and there seems to no longer be a way to get in touch directly with a support person. Maybe theyll read this. Ive been using Paper for years and I have a lot stored on this Mini and would like to copy then before I give it away. But theyre gone. Yes, my iPad are all using current site are. Yes, the mini has the newest version. Yes, Ive rebooted.

Feature request

Adding layer to the app for will enrich users experience And return two fingers circle to undo I couldnt use the app anymore without this feature

Stop with the clutter.

Just make this end and bring back what made Paper great when it first came out. It was simply paper, with great art tools. Now, this pile of junk is slow, non-intuitive, and utterly filled with unnecessary crud.

Not sure what all the rage is about?

I recently got an iPad Pro & shortly after I downloaded this app because I had hear so much about it & it had pretty good reviews. Unfortunately, I did not live up to the hype for me. Maybe Im just trying to use it for things it was developed to do, but I found it very cumbersome & laborious trying to do basic things like make a diagram/flowchart & incorporate text & drawings into the same page. I honestly couldnt find any use for it & have since deleted when i found other apps that work MUCH smoother.

10 Steps Backward

This used to be my favorite drawing app. Every time I open it it has an update and has made the app useless to me. The rewind button is gone. I used to love the thick pen it had and the beautiful flow and simplicity. Its all gone now and its like every other app now. Went from favorite app to least favorite. Who ever became the boss really needs to adjust their thinking. I really miss the app it used to be. Now this app is just sitting in a folder on the third page of the home screen off in the corner gathering dust. This was one of the very few apps that I spent a lot of money on. Now my money was wasted. I wish they would have kept the original and made a completely different app so the ones who liked it before could keep the same app and the ones who want to use it for completely different purpose could use it for such. Paper II or something. Please bring back the original with the book, nice thick pen, rewind swipe, and simplistic everything. Please! I dont even use this app now. Worthless to me.

Love it

Great app not just for drawing but also for managing projects. Were working on a patio this summer and Im using it to keep track of supplies and designs.

Still no portrait view?!

Seriously... Why can this app be used in portrait mode? I bought the Pencil months ago wanting this to be my go to app for sketches. But restricting my use to landscape...no way. Im only giving one star until this obvious flaw is remedied.
